Food Service 101: Opening Your Own Place

Hold A Health-Conscious Business Meeting With The Right Catering

If you catered for your last meeting, you may have discovered that some of the meeting attendees requested that you offer healthy options. If you have decided that you want to make your next catered event much healthier, you'll need to understand the main issues that healthy food enthusiasts worry about when trying to find healthier options.

Don't Focus Too Much on Fats

Fat is often treated as one of the most important considerations when offering a healthy option. However, fats are an important part of a diet because they provide insulation to help you maintain a higher body temperature. While fats are acceptable, they need to be less than 20% of the food you're serving. Try to choose foods with unsaturated fats, such as olive oil.

Offer Salads

A salad is one of the safest ways to cater for a meeting. However, beware of what toppings you add on the salad. You might want to leave an option for attendees to control how much dressing they add to the salad. Also, there are some dressings that are healthier than others, such as vinaigrette.

Offer Water

Water is always a simple and affordable option you can offer so that your guests can stay hydrated. Hydration is an important part of remaining healthy. Also, you can make water taste better by adding lemons. A nice pitcher of water filled with ice is always appealing.

Use Small Plates

Carefully select the plates that the attendees will use. Smaller plates will encourage everyone to choose smaller portions and will also help you save money since you won't have to bring as much food.

Carefully Position the Food

Place the healthiest food first. If you have a buffet, the guests will fill up their plates and will be more likely to eat healthy if the fruits and vegetables are the first items they can put on their plates. However, you won't want to rely only on fruits and vegetables because protein will also give your workers the energy they need to get to work after the meeting. Choose lean meats.

Hire a Catering Service

Hire a catering company that is experienced with catering healthy, organic food. A lot of healthy foods are difficult to cater. For example, bananas can turn brown if they aren't preserved properly. Some healthy foods can become mushy if they aren't stored properly. But fortunately, an informed health food catering service will know how to store and present healthy food.
